Shenanigans XII: Busy Busy Busy
Hello, friends! Normally I try to put these newsletters out at a reasonable hour, so people can read them with a morning coffee and pastelito, or as a distraction from other, less pleasant emails. But this time, I bring you events, including a fun and frantic Infernal Salon that happens tomorrow afternoon! Hence my rush to place this in your hot digital hands. And so, without further ado…
Events!
Tomorrow, September 30, 2023, at 4:30pm ET, join the Infernal Salon! C. S. E. Cooney and Carlos Hernandez have made a roleplaying game called Negocios Infernales that uses a spooky deck of custom cards to determine success and failure, inspire improvisation, create characters, and create mayhem in the collaborative story you are telling. Writers will get a prompt of one or more cards, then write for 20 minutes. At the end of it all, the writers will share their infernally-inspired works! It me, I am one of the writers.
On October 4, 2023, at 3pm ET, I’ll be hosting a National Novel Writing Month prep stream on my Twitch channel. There will be prompts and co-working sprints, and I’ll talk about my process for putting together a story for the Worldbuilding for Masochists anthology. You can also ask me any questions you have about writing, editing, my books and my cats!
On October 10, 2023, 9:00pm ET, I’ll be hanging out with Samit Basu discussing THE JINN-BOT OF SHANTIPORT. This virtual event is free to attend! Mysterious Galaxy's virtual events are hosted on Crowdcast. Click here to register for the event and here to view the virtual code of conduct.
On October 19, 2023, 7:30pm ET, I’ll be giving a presentation called Series Potential: Outlining Beyond Book One. This craft talk will deep dive into what it means to write a series, the different types of series, the differences and similarities of single-book and multi-book character and plot arcs, and more!
Cats!
It’s cool enough to open windows to let in some fresh air, which also means Inara gets to be a chismosa and spy on the neighborhood.
If you have any questions you'd like me to answer in a blog post or here in the newsletter, you can leave a comment on the Substack page, email me, or find me on the social media site of your preference. Stay safe, and thanks for joining in the shenanigans!
