Greetings, friends!
If your life is anything like mine, you’ve been extremely busy for a long time with basically no breaks. But perhaps this means that you, too, have many pots simmering on the stove, ready for their contents to be served at some indeterminate point in the future. Or perhaps the future is now?!
News!
The publication date for Fault Tolerance has shifted to August 2, 2022. If you already preordered, I have no idea whether your order has been cancelled or also shifted through the power of technology, so please check. If you haven’t preordered yet, now is a good time to give your future self a nice little present!
I also had a story accepted in an upcoming anthology! My space opera retelling of the myth of Atalanta will appear in Fit For the Gods, alongside stories by some other extremely amazing authors. More details as they become available.
In writing-adjacent awesomeness, I’m excited to share that I’m taking over for S.B. Divya as co-editor of Escape Pod. I have no direct knowledge of the actual shoe size I am filling, but the figurative shoes are very large indeed, as Escape Pod has been putting out amazing audio fiction for ages. Our flash fiction contest starts April 15, 2022, so if you want a chance to be published with us, start working on your tiny tales now!
Events!
Flights of Foundry returns for another year of awesome virtual panels and events April 8-11, 2022. The schedule isn’t finalized yet, but you can register now and start browsing the options. I’ll be speaking and moderating and possibly doing a chill-n-chat, for which there is a lottery! So get your ticket and hopefully I’ll see you there, digitally speaking.
Our Blades in the Dark campaign, “The Case of the Cindered Seal,” has now ended, but we’ve begun an amazing new game! Girl by Moonlight, “Fractal Spire” is a bittersweet tale of magical friends, hosted by the fine folks at Speculate 2.0. Our next episode will be March 20, 2022, at 7pm EST on the usual Twitch channel.
If you need to relax, you can always check out my mandatory fun times, every Monday through Wednesday night at 9pm ET on my Twitch channel. Right now, I’m playing Knights and Bikes with my husband Eric, continuing my replay of the Mass Effect series, and approaching the end of Horizon: Zero Dawn. Come chat with me while I demonstrate my total lack of gaming skills!
Cool Stuff!
I’ve had the pleasure of hosting twice now for a really cool reading series called Story Hour. Every Wednesday at 10pm ET, two authors read two or more short stories, so you get about an hour of fiction from the comfort of your privacy pod. Most recently, I got to hear Jennifer Hudak reading “With the Nectar Comes the Sting” and “Til Human Voices Wake Us” and Gwendolyn Kiste reading “The Eight People Who Murdered Me (Excerpt from Lucy Westenra’s Diary)”. Check out the recording and bask in the awesome words!
Cats!
As the temperatures dropped here, Inara discovered that she enjoys being snuggled within the warm confines of my jackets. She still hates having her picture taken, though.
Did I forget something? Probably! But all we can do is our best. If you have any questions you'd like me to answer in a blog post or here in the newsletter, you can leave a comment on the Substack page, email me, or find me on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. Stay safe, and thanks for joining in the shenanigans!
Yay, pre-ordering now through my favorite local indie bookstore, Kepler's. :-)
I have the _new_ Horizon all downloaded and ready to play, but I decided to hold off until I finish AC Valhalla, on the theory that I should give them time to patch the inevitable release bugs. I still can't believe nobody has picked up Ashley Burch for some major animated film, like a Pixar or Dreamworks thing; she's one of the finest voice talents working today.
